Taken At Birth: Stolen Babies, Hidden Lies, and My Journey to Finding Home by Jane BlasioSep 29, 2021
We all have secrets - things we don’t share with anyone. But what if our deepest, most explosive secrets aren't about ourselves? Is it right to keep the truth about someone else hidden from them? What if those secrets were about the core of who they think they are?
Author Jane Blasio knows about secrets. Her entire world changed when she was just six years old. Adult gossip had been overheard and spilled onto the playground. Jane’s older sister was told that not only had she and Jane been adopted, they’d been bought. They were black market babies.
That day was just the beginning of Jane’s desire to discover everything she could about her past, her identity, and her biological family. In Taken at Birth: Stolen Babies, Hidden Lies, and My Journey to Finding Home, she shares her own journey of discovery as well as stories from other “Hicks babies”. Her search for the truth uncovered over 200 victims of illegal adoptions arranged at the Hicks Clinic in McCaysville Georgia.
This book is a stunning expose of lies, greed, and the messiness of what it means to have family secrets. It’s also the story of the author’s incredible dedication to finding the truth for herself and other Hick’s babies. She tried to hire a private investigator but at his urging learned to be one herself which, of course, is my favorite part of the story! She did the boots-on-the-ground work necessary to uncover the secrets about her own identity, but she couldn’t stop there. She helped dozens of others as well
I can’t say enough about the amazing twists and turns Taken at Birth: Stolen Babies, Hidden Lies, and My Journey to Finding Home has.
