One Easy Way to Donate Items to Foster Care MinistryDec 06, 2021
The Christmas shopping season is on! Even though my kiddos aren’t kiddos anymore, it’s always fun to see what the latest gift crazes are. It looks like toys that make noise are still popular, at least with kids if not their parents! Paw Patrol merchandise is still a top seller, as well as Legos (so watch out walking through the playroom).
But imagine that you’re a child, who through no fault of your own, has been removed from your home. Your favorite toys were left behind, as were most of your clothes and any sense of security you had. You’re told that everything will be okay, but while arrangements are made for a place for you to stay, you just have to wait awhile at the office of the government agency that is now in charge of you. Not a very kid friendly place.
Now imagine a house with a bright red front door that has people in it whose main job is to love on you! A house that is filled with things that let you know that you matter. You can have a relaxing bath with bubbles, new pajamas, and a warm bed where you can get some much needed rest while you wait for placement in a foster home. That place exists!
Isaiah 117 House really does what it’s name implies - they “defend the cause of the fatherless”. Operating multiple homes in multiple states is a big job, and that’s why I joined with them to give you the opportunity to help meet the needs of the children that they serve. They helped me develop an Amazon Wish List filled with things that they need to stock up on, and it’s such an easy way for you to become a P.I. - a person of impact.
Just click the link below to go to our shopping list. It’s filled with things that these kiddos need. Things that our kiddos take for granted. Your gift let’s these kids know that there are lots of people in this world who care about what happens to them.
Did you know that according to childwelfare.gov, on September 30, 2019, there were an estimated 423,997 children in foster care? Many were able to be placed with relatives, but most were not. (Child Welfare Information Gateway. (2021)). Foster care statistics 2019. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Children's Bureau.)
Isaiah 117 House is a trademarked 501c3 non-profit organization. I know that a lot of great organizations are reaching out for help at this time of year, so I hope you will prayerfully consider supporting the work of Isaiah House 117. Any purchases made from my links will also support the work of The Unlovely Truth as I will receive a very small affiliate commission. It’s so easy - there’s a shipping address to give to Amazon right on the wish list page.
Your gift is also an investment in a child's future. Studies show that one quarter of foster care alumni will become involved with the criminal justice system within two years of leaving care. You can read more about that alarming trend here. If we each take one small action we can make a significant difference. You never know when your small act of kindness might change the direction of someone’s life.
